Physical Exams:
A regular physical examination is just as important for your pet as it is for you. Our veterinarians recommend a complete physical examination for your pet at least once, and perhaps twice a year. During a physical examination, our veterinarian will listen to your pet's heart and lungs, evaluate your pet's vision, look for any unusual lumps or swelling and check your pet's teeth and oral cavity, among other procedures.
Routine examinations give us an opportunity to develop a picture of your pet's overall health. Examinations are also essential in spotting problems before they become serious health issues. During an exam, your veterinarian may also talk to you about home healthcare for your pet. An examination is also a good time for your pet to get up-to-date on his or her vaccinations. We do well-pet, preventative medicine, like vaccinations, flea control, nutrition counseling, behavioral counseling, mi crochipping. We do examinations and write health certificates for interstate travel, as well as health certificates to Hawaii, the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia.
Dental Care:
Dental disease can cause serious problems for your pet, ranging from gum inflammation and tooth loss to infection and even organ damage. Up to 80% of dogs and 70% of cats that don’t receive proper dental care will develop signs of dental disease by the age of three. Our hospital offers a variety of Dentistry Services. At your pet's yearly examination it may be determined that they require a dental cleaning. Routine veterinary dentistry involves prophylaxis (teeth cleaning), polishing and a full oral examination. Dental prophylaxis is performed with your pet under general anesthesia. It involves cleaning the surface of each tooth and scaling below the gum line, where food, bacteria, and tartar build up. To ensure the safety of your pet, pre-operative blood work will be performed prior to the anesthesia. During a dental procedure, our veterinarian evaluates your pet's teeth for fractures, caries (cavities), excessive wear, and other abnormalities. He will also examine around the gums to detect periodontal disease. Sometimes teeth need to be pulled (extracted). Our doctors will always up date you with any recommendations and get your request before any services.
Digital X Ray:
Digital radiography provides instant images, allowing for rapid diagnoses for your pet. Our highly-trained staff uses our state-of-the-art equipment to quickly and efficiently diagnose your pet. Dr. Ann Reed performs all the ultrasound examinations and the radiology diagnostics at Ambassador long beach Veterinary Hospital. Her clinical experience as a certified radiologist was very helpful in the diagnosis for most complicated cases as well as for good prognosis. Also her flexible schedule allows her to commute when we needed her for any consultations.
Drop- Off & Pick up:
We know how hectic your day can be, so we developed a way to make having your pet examined easier. All you need to do is make a drop-off appointment, and our receptionists will take any necessary information for the doctors. This allows for early-morning drop-offs and gives clients and doctors flexibility in their schedules. We routinely perform physical exams, vaccinations, blood testing and many other services by the drop-off method. In the event that a patient is ill and requires further testing and/or hospitalization, we contact you to explain the situation and discuss treatment options. Drop-off exams provide all of the benefits of veterinary care without disrupting your busy schedule! Also for your convenient we offer long hours Mondays through Fridays for late pickups.
Emergency Service:
Emergency service is available to care for any emergency situations during our normal business hours. Our Hospital is well equipped and our team of doctors and staff are well trained. We know how stressful it can be when a pet becomes ill, so our goal is to offer the highest-quality care possible. The first step in the treatment of a sick pet is obtaining an accurate diagnosis. We take pride in having advanced equipment and the ability to perform specific tests in order to identify a disease and be able to treat it. Our automated blood analysis system allows us to test organ function and run blood panels, and we typically have the results in a matter of hours. This can be critical, particularly for emergency situations or for pre-surgical testing. In many cases, we need x-rays to identify problems that cannot be detected externally, and our automatic processing system gives us these images quickly. Occasionally, some patients require more complicated diagnostics, for which we have a flexible schedule with Dr. Reed to perform an ultrasound that offer a less-invasive option to surgery and can be an excellent tool for obtaining biopsies. We also have a computerized EKG system and blood pressure equipment. .After hours, emergencies are handled by North Orange Animal Emergency (714) 441-2925 Or Cross Roads Emergency (562) 683-2522
Endoscopy:
An endoscopy allows our veterinarians to look inside your pet using a series of small cameras attached to a flexible tube. This allows the doctor to look inside a body cavity or organ and diagnoses a problem less invasively. An endoscopy allows biopsies, cultures and removing foreign objects from the lungs, stomach or intestines. Endoscopies are less stressful than standard surgery and allow for a quicker recovery time for your pet.
Heartworms & parasite prevention
Pets can suffer from external parasites (like fleas and ticks) or internal parasites (like heartworms or the intestinal worms). Some of these parasites affect the skin, while others affect the digestive tract or even the heart. Unfortunately, many of these parasites can infect humans as well, so it is doubly important to have your pets routinely examined and tested, and then to implement appropriate parasite control programs. These programs range from topical products to monthly oral prevention, and most are easy to use. In addition to the human risk factor, some parasites like ticks also carry other diseases that can infect your pet. Ehrlichiosis (commonly known as "Tick Fever") is transmitted through ticks, and this disease can cause serious anemia and death if it is not treated. We use different variety of flea control, for more information feel free to call our staff.n appointment..

Laser Surgery:
Laser surgery minimizes bleeding, reduces pain and swelling and promotes rapid healing. When your pet undergoes laser surgery, he or she will recover more quickly and face less post-operative pain. Laser surgery is also more precise and greatly reduces the risk of infection. Laser surgery allows us to do complex surgeries that otherwise might have to be referred to specialists..
Microship Implants:
Millions of pets go missing each year, and many never return home. To increase your pet's chances of coming home should he or she become lost, we recommend micro chipping your pet. During a simple, painless procedure similar to a vaccination, a small microchip (about the size of a grain of rice) is implanted underneath your pet's skin, usually near the shoulder blades. Each microchip contains a unique code that corresponds to vital information about your pet stored in a national database. If your pet is lost, the microchip can be scanned at a veterinary hospital or animal shelter, and the information can be used to bring your pet home. We use Home Again microchip system because the microchips do not migrate away from the location that they are implanted. Clients can then subscribe to the Home Again website to locate updated information on their pet's vaccination status from anywhere in the world.

Orthopedics & Hip Surgeries:
TPLO Procedures: Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteomy (TPLO) surgery for cranial cruciate ligament injury is aimed at changing the biomechanics of the stifle (knee). The normally sloped tibial plateau of the dog is rotated to become flat. This eliminates the tendency for the tibia (shinbone) to thrust forward during weight bearing, which in turn keeps the menisci (“shock-absorbing” cartilages) from being torn and crushed. TPLO surgery has improved success at avoiding long-term development of arthritis and leads to better resumption of normal activities than typically is seen with other surgeries for cranial cruciate ligament rupture.
Bone Plating: Broken bones can be a common occurrence among pets, but treating a broken limb in a dog or cat is vastly different from treating a broken limb in a human. Placing and maintaining casts on a dog or cat is very difficult and presents many challenges to both veterinarians and pet owners. To better heal a broken bone, your veterinarian may recommend bone surgery. This involves the application of various metal surgical implants, such as pins, wires, plates and screws, to the broken limb. This procedure will help restore broken bones and fix them in place while healing occurs.
Limb and Tail Amputation: Traumatic injuries to a pet's tail or limb may necessitate the removal of that appendage. Injuries from automobiles, infections, cancer and other diseases are all conditions that could lead to a pet's limb being amputated. Amputation is done either to save a pet's life or to ease pain brought on by disease or injury. Amputation procedures are a difficult decision for pet owners and our veterinarians will talk to clients about how your pet will cope with amputation. Limb and tail amputations are an involved, but usually not complicated, surgical procedure.ommendations or alterations.
Oxygen Transfusion:
Our hospital offers oxygen therapy for the treatment of many acute cardiac, respiratory and blood disorders. Oxygen may be provided to patients by a nasal catheter (cannula), oxygen cage, hood or mask. Close veterinary monitoring of these patients is required to maintain oxygen flow, avoid potential complications of oxygen usage and to insure that expected therapeutic goals are being met.
Pain Management:
Keeping your pet pain-free is crucial to maintaining his or her quality of life. Our veterinarians use a multi-modal approach to pain management that includes anti-inflammatory, opioid drugs, local anesthetics, general anesthetics, and even epidural anesthesia to effectively combat pain at all levels. .If your pet is dealing with acute pain, our goal is to prevent the nerves from perceiving and remembering this pain so that it does not become chronic pain. For this reason, pain-management protocols are a part of the treatment plan for all invasive procedures, such as surgeries. If your pet is already dealing with chronic pain, our veterinarians can create a customized pain management plan based on your pet’s individual needs and medical issues.

Spaying involves removal of the uterus and ovaries of female dogs and cats and is called ovariohysterectomy. Neutering involves removal of the testicles of male dogs and cats and is called castration.
Both procedures are performed under general anesthesia and both involve a surgical incision. Pain management medications are used routinely in this hospital to insure your pet's comfort.
These surgeries are performed most commonly at or around six months of age. Ask our staff about spaying or neutering your pet to help prevent unwanted sexual behavior and pregnancies and to decrease or eliminate the possibility of certain disease conditions later in life. We offer spay and neuter low cost clinic in Mondays, Tuesday and Fridays.
Ultrasound:
An ultrasound is similar to an x-ray, but provides real time evaluation of your pet's organs. Ultrasounds can locate non-radiopaque foreign bodies in the intestine without costly and time consuming x-ray. It is a good component tool for early diagnosis especially for emergency cases. An ultrasound examination is less invasive, less stressful and more comfortable for your pet.
Vaccinations:
Our hospital offers Vaccination Examinations. Vaccinations are critical to the well being of your pet; protecting them from potentially deadly viral diseases like Distemper, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis and Rabies in dogs; and Panleukopenia, Feline Leukemia Virus and Rabies in cats.
Vaccination protects pets from disease by exposing their body's immune system to inactive or parts of a type of bacteria or virus. Our doctors will help you decide which vaccines are appropriate for your pet's risk factors. Proper administration and giving a vaccine at the correct age and time interval is critical for proper protection. Vaccination is particularly critical in young animals that have naive immune systems. Vaccination typically starts at 6-8 weeks of age and the puppy and kitten series is completed around 16 weeks of age.
Vaccinations are generally accompanied by doctor consultation and examination to ensure your pet is healthy enough for the vaccines. We will keep you up to date when your pets will be due for booster vaccinations during their adult years. We proudly rovide extended daily low cost vaccinr: Monday- friday 11:00am-1:00 pm & From 6:00pm-7:30pm , saturday 10:00am-12:00pm.
